Family Group
Sorel Etrog, 1964, Bronze with green patina
Etrog's gift for blending mechanical motifs, such as links, hinges, and wrenches, with fluid, animalistic lines is here evident. The three figures that make up the family group are not clearly discernible, but it is undoubtedly their entwining that allows for the wings of protection that hover about them. From an edition of five, this impressive sculpture carries both an otherworldly and a reassuring presence, as it invites the beholder to reflect on the nature of human connection, a central theme for the Canadian sculptor.
