Purple Wig

Amanda Wall, 2024, Oil on linen

The luxuriant intimacy of the brushstrokes that compose the female subject in Purple Wig are typical of Wall’s self-sensual style. Interested in conveying the sexuality and dynamism of the body alone, without any immediate onlookers, the artist brings us near to the nitty-gritty and complicated existence of the self in a hazy world. Here, the subject covers her face with her hands in an ambiguous move – one which echoes the disguising impulse of the eponymous purple wig she wears.
